This is actually Radic´s own house, it used to be an old house with a huge roof wich was removed to place this tent. The name CR HOUSE, is because Correa-Radic (his wife is Marcela Correa, a chilean sculptor), there´s no much info on this on the net, but there are a few books where you can find some more stuff.

Another aspect to consider is cost. Original estimates for the new central library in Austin started at close to $180 million. The bond issue which passed was for $90 million. It is hoped that fund raising from the Library Foundation will bring the figure up to $120 million. It is quite certain that one of the factors in the decision on the winning candidate was how to construct a functioning, downtown library on a tight budget.

No, I've never been myself, but there are people I know that have and love it. Plus, all the architecture professors gush over it. But that's not always a good thing.

I agree with you though. Too often architects forget about useful and just make pretty buildings.

Have you ever been to the Seattle Central Library? I have and as fabulous as it looks, I do not believe it serves its public very well. World famous architects are nice and all, but I just want someone to design something that is beautiful AND useful.

I disagree, I don't think EVERYONE loves Gehry. People who aren't architects are those who like his work. They see that it's sculptural and not a box, so they remember it. However, most architects HATE his work (at least the ones I know). Frank Gehry falls into the same trap that many artists do. They make one outstanding building, and it becomes the fad, and then everyone wants one. So instead of keeping the creative integrity to that one project, he ended up mass-producing these projects. Commercializing I do agree somewhat with absolutesardonics, not every form must have an obvious purpose. "Architecture as art?" It's an eternal question in architectural theory. Designers will fall on either side of the fence, with a few right on it.

Good observation. He took a lot of criticsm for lack of character development when it was first published. I just started reading the book myself, but read a little about it before starting. Four out of five of the the book choices given to your eighth-grade class have made the Top 100 Banned Books list. My eyes popped out at a comment in BNW's first chapter about Black eggs in Africa 'budding' more quickly than European eggs. This was a nod to the old stereotype of blacks being more fertile than whites. I had to remind myself America was still in the grips of Jim Crow laws when this book was written but still felt it was overtly racist. Funny how times change. In Fahrenheit 451, all the characters smoked constantly and woman were 'housewives' In the 50s, Bradbury could never have imagined his 'future' world including no smoking laws and working women. I'm impressed Huxley conceived of the idea of cloning. Bradbury had people watching flat wall TV's. Pretty amazing.

Rem Koolhaas’s CCTV Tower begins the transformation of how we view surveillance, a little Art, Style and above all melt into the landscape.

In most places, cameras stick out and cause an eye sore. The concept of blending this technology in a not so intrusive way is welcomed here.

i just came back from the city of Beijing, The Bird Nest is compeleted and is being used. The tickets are extremley hard to aquire. The CCV tower has some way to go, but the work 24-7 and you just can't realize the speed with which there production exists. The built a road in the month that I was there and are using it.
I went everywhere and eat and saw all the things one should see in China. I have absolutley no proplems of any kind any where.
You can buy so many good things there and at a fraction of the price. I will never forget the experience or the friendliness of the people there.
